Robots aren't as good in removing debris like metal screws or chunks of pasta. They are however excellent at cleaning pet hair, dust, and crumbs. The best models have intelligent navigation systems, which helps them avoid cords, toys, and other household obstacles.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a fantastic robot vacuum with a number of clever features that make it much easier to maintain than most competing models. The automatic bin emptying feature is among the most efficient features we've encountered in an iRobot and it is compatible with both hard floors and carpets. It's also simple to set up and use with the app that guides you step-by-step through the process. Another notable feature is its ability to return to the spot where it was when we tested it. It did this for 77 minutes on one cleaning, before running out of battery.

In contrast to other robovacs we've tested, the i3+ EVO features self-emptying bins that dump debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base when it's full. This makes it easier to maintain the unit and helps keep the i3+ EVO from overfilling, however it must be manually cleaned after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's built-in dustbin holds 2.4L of waste, which is more than enough to last five or four cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.
Like the i7, this model uses state-of-the-art floor sensors to create maps and navigate neat rows. However the i3+ EVO only stores one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple maps. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not for the i3+ EVO.
The i3+ EVO does a better job of removing debris from the surface compared to some other robovacs we've examined, but it's not the best in cleaning corners and edges. It's also not as gentle on furniture, despite being fairly quiet. It pushed chairs away from walls and made some collisions with the sides of our bed, and it got stuck on cords and toys during our testing.
2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro
If you're looking to increase your collection of robot vacuums, or are just starting out, the Q5 Pro is a great option. It packs serious power, advanced navigation and a user-friendly automation into a sleek design for a reasonable price. It's the best model for the money available currently and even beats some Roborock models that are more expensive in a variety of ways.
This robot is excellent at cleaning floors that are bare and its avoidance technology helps it steer clear of furniture legs or other obstacles. It also does well on carpets and scores the top score in our tests of navigation. The only drawback is that it's a little louder than other models we test, and it doesn't fare as well in our owners satisfaction and predicted reliability tests.
The Q5 Pro has a very large dust bin of 770ml which means you don't have to empty it as often as some other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240-minute running time is also impressive when compared to other 2-in-1 robots that we tested. When the battery is low, it will automatically return to its dock where it recharges before resuming cleaning from where it left off. You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and make voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
This is the first robot we've seen that has 3D mapping. That, combined with some other innovations, helps it perform exceptionally well in our vacuuming and mopping tests. You can schedule cleanings, set no-go zones, and view the battery's condition as well as other things. The app is simple to use, but it isn't compatible with Apple HomeKit. That feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple updated its footnote on its website in the beginning of November to reflect the fact that this feature has been delayed until 2025. HomeKit is not compatible with several other robots, but Siri Shortcuts are.

This model uses a dToF internal LiDAR sensor to create a map of your home, resulting in efficient cleaning routes. The iMop was a winner in our assessment of the effectiveness of navigation and coverage and was also adept at eliminating obstacles, like furniture. It's also able to find its way back to the base station, which is a nice feature in the event that it runs out of battery during cleaning.
It also comes with a spot cleaning mode that allows you to mop or clean an part of your floor. It can also be programmed manually to follow a certain direction.
